Water ConservationLet us share the following facts about water consumption and conservation. - Two-thirds of the human body and three-quarters of the human brain is water.
- Seventy-five percent of a living tree is water.
- Humans can survive a month without food, but only five to seven days without water.
- There is the same amount of water on Earth today as there was 3 billion years ago.
- Three percent of the water on Earth is fresh water yet only 1% is available for human consumption.
- Two-thirds of the water used in an average home is used in the bathroom.
- Every toilet flush uses four to six gallons of water per day.
- Sub-Saharan Africans use 3-6 gallons of water a day, North Americans use more than 180 gallons of water a day.
- Bottled water costs six to 10 times more than gasoline.
- In areas not connected to piped water service – such as slums and other peri-urban areas – people can pay as much as 10 to 20 times more for water delivered by truck.
- Only 20% of the water that is supplied in an office building needs to be potable because it involves direct human contact. The 80% left is used in toilets, urinals, landscape watering, water fountains, ponds and in some cases fire systems such as sprinklers and reserve tanks.
Ecolo-Systems’ treatment plants allow for recycling 80% of the water currently being wasted, reducing the need for fresh water and decreasing costs. |
